Ukrainian forces executed an overnight drone operation on September 6, striking deep into Russian territory. Targets included the Rostov-on-Don airfield, the Ryazan Oil Refinery, and three Russian air defense assets in the Rostov region. Fires were reported
at both the airfield and the refinery. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the targeting of the Ryazan Oil Refinery, noting its role in supplying the Russian armed forces. The refinery, one of Russia’s largest, has a design capacity of approximately 17 million metric tons of crude per year and produces various petroleum products. Ukrainian defense manufacturer Fire Point claimed its FP-1 drones hit equipment at two major crude-processing units at the refinery, accounting for over 77% of its primary oil-processing capacity. The air defense assets hit included a Podlet radar station and two Pantsir-S1 surface-to-air missile systems. Russia’s Defense Ministry reported intercepting 258 Ukrainian drones across at least 14 Russian regions, Crimea, and areas over the Black and Azov seas, though Moscow and its surrounding region were reportedly untouched during visits by U.S. envoys.
