What's Happening?
Japan Steel Works has delivered the first Patria AMV XP 8x8 armoured vehicle to the Japan Self-Ground Defense Forces as part of the Wheeled Armoured Personnel Carrier programme. The hand-over ceremony took place on September 2, 2025, at JSW's facility in Muroran, Hokkaido. The Japanese Ministry of Defence selected the Patria AMV XP for its programme in December 2022, and Patria entered into a contract for the local programme in August 2023. This collaboration includes technology transfer to Japan, marking Japan as the ninth user nation of Patria AMV vehicles.
