Dina Titus, a Democratic Representative from Nevada, has had a long-standing career in education and politics. Born in Thomasville, Georgia, Titus pursued higher education at the College of William and Mary,
University of Georgia, and Florida State University, earning her Ph.D. in 1976. She served as a professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas from 1977 to 2011, teaching American and Nevada government classes. Titus entered politics as a member of the Nevada State Senate in 1989, serving until 2008 and holding the position of minority leader from 1993 to 2008. Although she was an unsuccessful candidate for Governor of Nevada in 2006, she was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2008, representing Nevada's 3rd Congressional District until 2011. After an unsuccessful reelection bid in 2010, Titus was elected to represent Nevada's 1st District in 2013 and has been serving since.
