The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) reported that the global mean near-surface temperature in 2024 was 1.55 ± 0.13°C above the 1850–1900 average, marking it the warmest year in the 175-year observational record. The WMO emphasized the inadequacy
of early warning systems, noting that only half of all countries worldwide had sufficient systems in place. The organization is advocating for the Early Warnings for All initiative, which aims to ensure that every person on Earth is protected by multi-hazard early warning systems by 2027. The report also highlighted the increasing frequency and impact of climate-related disasters, with 393 natural hazard-related events in 2024 causing 16,753 deaths and affecting over 167 million people.
