JoAnne Margaret Getz Gerding, a dedicated educator and philanthropist from Aurora, IL, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025, at the age of 80. She was known for her commitment to teaching at several institutions, including the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy and Waubonsee Community College. JoAnne was also a passionate volunteer, contributing to various charitable organizations. Her love for reading was evident as she was a member of a book club for 35 years and briefly owned a bookstore. JoAnne's family includes her children, grandchildren, and siblings, who remember her fondly. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, and memorials can be made to National Public Radio and Pencils of Promise.
