What's Happening?
The Calexico High School Interact Club, a youth division of Rotary International, has revitalized its community service efforts after a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Under the leadership of President Nirvana Calderon and Vice President Karina Ramirez,
the club has engaged 28 students in various service projects. These initiatives include participating in the Grito de Independencia celebration, supporting CASA of Imperial County, and refurbishing a historic kiosk in Calexico. The club aims to instill the Rotary ideal of 'Service Above Self' in students, preparing them to become future leaders and global citizens. The club's activities are supported by the Calexico Rotary Club and advisor Ms. Betty Núñez, who guide students in executing projects and understanding Rotary's mission.
Why It's Important?
The revival of the Interact Club at Calexico High School is significant as it fosters leadership and community service among young people, preparing them for future roles in society. By engaging in service projects, students develop skills in teamwork, project management, and civic responsibility. These experiences not only benefit the students but also have a positive impact on the local community, as seen in projects like the kiosk refurbishment and support for foster families. The club's activities also strengthen ties between the school and local organizations, promoting a culture of collaboration and mutual support.
