Research from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicates that ticks carrying Lyme disease have migrated southward, posing a new threat to regions previously unaffected. The study, conducted in Biltmore Forest, North Carolina, found
that 76.9% of collected ticks were blacklegged, or deer ticks, known to carry the bacteria causing Lyme disease. More than a third of these ticks tested positive for the bacteria. The migration of ticks is attributed to warmer winters, which have allowed deer and rodent populations to move south, bringing ticks with them.
