What's Happening?
VRChat, a leading social VR platform, has officially launched its app on Android and iOS, following a prolonged beta testing phase. Initially, the app was available to VRChat Plus subscribers on Android in August 2023, and later opened to a broader audience
in August 2025. The iOS version underwent a closed beta starting in May 2024. Now, both versions are accessible to all users on modern mobile devices via Google Play and the Apple App Store. Android devices require Android 10 or higher and more than 6GB of RAM, while Apple devices need iOS 17 or higher. Devices with less than 6GB of RAM can only use the Companion app, which allows users to interact with friends but not enter virtual worlds.
Why It's Important?
The launch of VRChat on mobile platforms is significant as it broadens the accessibility of social VR experiences beyond traditional VR headsets and PCs. This move could potentially increase user engagement and expand the platform's user base, which has already seen substantial growth. By making VRChat available on mobile devices, the company taps into a larger market, potentially increasing revenue through subscriptions and in-game sales. This expansion aligns with the growing trend of mobile gaming and social interaction, offering users more flexibility in how they engage with virtual environments.
What's Next?
The full mobile launch may lead to further developments in VRChat's platform capabilities, including potential support for emerging technologies like Android XR. As the platform continues to grow, it may explore additional features and integrations to enhance user experience and engagement. The company might also consider expanding its compatibility with other devices and platforms to capture a wider audience.
