On Tuesday, the U.S. Coast Guard conducted a rescue operation following a collision between two commercial fishing vessels, Nora J and Tabitha, off the coast of Grays Harbor, Washington. The incident occurred in the early morning fog, prompting a swift
response from the Coast Guard's Sector Columbia River. A motor lifeboat crew from Station Grays Harbor and a Jayhawk rescue helicopter from Air Station Astoria were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, the crew found the Nora J significantly damaged and taking on water, while the Tabitha remained largely undamaged. All three crew members aboard the Nora J were safely evacuated without injuries and transported to Station Grays Harbor. Despite efforts to dewater and salvage the vessel, the Nora J ultimately sank in approximately 300 feet of water. Fortunately, no pollution was reported as a result of the sinking.
