What's Happening?
Massachusetts utilities Eversource and National Grid are expanding their virtual power plant programs, ConnectedSolutions, to include residential vehicle-to-grid (V2G) charging. This initiative allows electric vehicle (EV) owners to earn incentives by
sending stored electricity from their car batteries back to the grid during high-demand periods. The program aims to leverage the growing number of EVs in the state, which exceeds 150,000, to help stabilize the grid and reduce reliance on expensive peak power. The initiative is supported by EnergyHub, Sunrun, and The Mobility House, which provide the necessary smart-charging and grid-integration technology. While the program promises financial incentives of up to $275 per average kilowatt of performance over the summer, details on eligible vehicles, bidirectional chargers, and enrollment specifics are yet to be finalized.
