What's Happening?
The Town of Century has unveiled the design for a new $10 million community shelter, funded by the Florida Department of Commerce's Rebuild Florida grant. The project, which has reached the 30% plan status, involves transforming the old Century High School
gym into a multipurpose facility. The design retains the gym's basic structure while adding new features such as a large lobby, an 812 square foot computer lab, two 900 square foot multipurpose rooms, a kitchen, locker rooms, and office spaces. The facility will serve as a community center and an emergency shelter during disasters. The gym, built in 1960, will be rehabilitated, and the adjacent football stadium, damaged by a tornado in 2016, will be demolished for safety.
