What's Happening?
The American Kennel Club (AKC) and the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) have announced a partnership to recognize CKC titles in Conformation, Obedience, and Rally on AKC records. This initiative allows dogs
registered with the AKC that have earned eligible CKC titles to have these titles recorded on their AKC records and pedigrees. The program aims to encourage participation in dog sports across the U.S.-Canada border, promoting shared values and responsible breeding practices. Doug Ljungren, AKC Executive Vice President of Sports & Events, emphasized the strong relationship between dog owners in both countries and the program's role in supporting responsible ownership and registry integrity.
Why It's Important?
This collaboration between the AKC and CKC is significant as it strengthens the bond between dog sport communities in the U.S. and Canada. By recognizing titles across borders, the program enhances the appeal of dog sports, potentially increasing participation and interest in these activities. It also underscores the importance of responsible breeding and ownership, which are critical for maintaining the integrity of purebred dog registries. The initiative may lead to increased cooperation and shared standards between the two countries, benefiting dog owners and breeders by providing more opportunities for recognition and competition.
