What's Happening?
At the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) National Impact Summit held in Abuja, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reiterated his administration's dedication to developing a digital workforce to drive Nigeria towards a $1 trillion economy. The summit, organized
by the Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, Dr. 'Bosun Tijani, highlighted the achievements of the 3MTT Programme, which has trained thousands of young Nigerians in digital skills since 2023. President Tinubu, represented by Senator George Akume, emphasized the importance of digital skills in achieving economic growth and job creation. The event gathered state governors, ministers, industry leaders, and development partners to discuss scaling digital skills development and fostering inclusive economic growth.
Why It's Important?
The commitment to building a digital workforce is crucial for Nigeria's economic future, as digital skills are increasingly essential across various sectors, including agriculture, healthcare, and finance. By equipping young Nigerians with these skills, the country aims to create jobs, expand enterprises, and enhance its competitiveness in the global market. The 3MTT Programme's success in training and placing individuals in jobs underscores the potential for digital skills to drive economic stability and growth. This initiative not only addresses unemployment but also positions Nigeria as a creator and exporter of digital talent, which is vital for long-term economic prospects.
What's Next?
The next phase of the 3MTT Programme will focus on expanding state-level collaboration, increasing training hubs, and accelerating pathways into employment and entrepreneurship. This expansion aims to deepen the impact of digital skills training across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones, bridging the digital divide and fostering innovation. Continued support from the government and collaboration with industry leaders will be essential to sustain and scale these efforts, ensuring that Nigeria's youth are prepared to thrive in the global digital economy.
