What's Happening?
Plan International has announced the creation of a new Deployable Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Specialist position within its Global Hunger Response and Resilience Unit. This role is part of the organization's strategy to scale up its humanitarian
efforts in response to growing unmet needs in emergencies. The WASH Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the technical soundness of WASH interventions in crisis settings, integrating these efforts with other life-saving interventions such as food security, nutrition, and child protection. The position requires deployment to various Plan International Country Offices for up to 75% of the time, often in hostile or crisis environments, to provide technical assistance and improve WASH intervention strategies.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of Plan International's humanitarian capabilities through the new WASH Specialist role is significant as it addresses critical needs in emergency settings, particularly for vulnerable children and girls. By enhancing WASH interventions, the organization aims to improve health outcomes and support broader humanitarian efforts, including food distribution and education in emergencies. This initiative reflects Plan International's commitment to tackling the root causes of challenges faced by girls and vulnerable children, promoting gender equality and social inclusion. The role also underscores the importance of integrated programming in maximizing the effectiveness of humanitarian responses.
What's Next?
The WASH Specialist will collaborate with Country Offices, regional management, and National Organizations to advise and support high-performing teams in improving their WASH intervention approaches. This includes exploring funding opportunities for integrated programming and ensuring accountability for meeting targets aligned with Plan International's global strategy. Interviews for the position are scheduled to take place in mid-November, with the role offering a 12-month fixed-term contract. The position is open to candidates in locations where Plan International has an office and can employ on behalf of the Global Hub.
