What's Happening?
The Galveston Wharves has initiated an endowment at Galveston College to support maritime-related degrees and trades. This initiative is funded by $40,000 from the Port of Galveston's bicentennial celebration sponsorship proceeds. The endowment aims to provide
financial assistance to students pursuing degrees in global logistics, supply chain management, and technical certifications such as welding and ship fitting. The Galveston College Foundation will manage these funds. Additionally, proceeds from the port's bicentennial have also been used to establish a similar endowment at Texas A&M University at Galveston. The endowment was ceremonially signed with members of the Galveston College Board of Regents and Galveston Wharves Board of Trustees.
Why It's Important?

The initiative supports a wide range of maritime-related careers, thereby strengthening the local community and economy. It reflects a commitment to developing local talent and ensuring the future success of the maritime industry, which is vital for the economic prosperity of Galveston and the broader Gulf Coast area.
