to authorities, a 38-year-old driver, Ashley Harbin of Toronto, was operating a Subaru southbound in the northbound lanes of I-29. This vehicle collided with a GMC driven by Odom. The impact caused the Subaru to stop in the roadway and the GMC to rotate, subsequently striking a Ford. A Chevrolet then crashed into the stopped Subaru. Daten Odom, the driver of the GMC, succumbed to his injuries. Ashley Harbin sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital. The two occupants of the Ford, Devon Halpate of Newark, Ohio, and Benjamin Strang of Clear Lake, Minnesota, were uninjured, as was the driver of the Chevrolet, Efrain Ramirez Martinez of Brookings.
