What's Happening?
Purdue University Northwest recently hosted the Midwest Regional Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition, a significant event aimed at enhancing the cybersecurity skills of computer science students. The competition took place over a weekend and involved
twelve colleges from eight states, including Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Kentucky, Missouri, and Ohio. Students participated in six- to nine-hour cyber defense marathons, where they were tasked with defending mock-up businesses from simulated hacker attacks. The event was designed to provide students with practical experience in identifying and mitigating cyber threats. Participants earned points by accurately diagnosing and responding to attacks orchestrated by a team of volunteers and alumni. The competition was held in partnership with Moraine Valley Community College and served as a qualifier for the National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition.
