What's Happening?
The TaxProf Blog, a prominent source of information on legal education and tax law, has been revitalized under the auspices of the Association of American Law Schools (AALS). Originally founded by Paul Caron, dean and professor at Pepperdine University
Rick J. Caruso School of Law, the blog has served as a critical resource for the legal and academic communities since 2004. It was temporarily shut down on September 30, 2025, due to the closure of its hosting platform, Typepad. The AALS has now taken over the blog, ensuring the preservation of its archives and the continuation of its role in providing timely and relevant information. The blog will continue to offer news, scholarship, and commentary, with contributions from Caron and a team of editors.
Why It's Important?
The revival of the TaxProf Blog by AALS is significant for the legal education community, as it maintains a vital resource for law school deans, professors, and tax lawyers. The blog's continuation ensures that its extensive archives and ongoing contributions remain accessible, supporting the dissemination of knowledge and fostering scholarly communities. This move reflects AALS's commitment to enhancing resources for legal educators and could potentially lead to the development of similar resources in other areas of law. The blog's preservation and growth are crucial for maintaining the flow of information and analysis that supports legal education and practice.
What's Next?
The AALS plans to expand the TaxProf Blog by adding more editors and contributors over time. The blog will continue to host new content and personal reflections from its founder, Paul Caron, and other legal scholars. The complete archive of over 50,000 posts is expected to be available by November, providing a comprehensive resource for the legal community. This initiative may also inspire the creation of additional resources in other substantive areas of law, further supporting the academic and professional development of legal educators and practitioners.
