What's Happening?
The Trust for Governors Island has issued a request for expressions of interest (RFEI) to transform two historic military buildings, Buildings 324 and 330, into arts and cultural centers or public recreation facilities. This initiative is part of a broader
effort to establish Governors Island as a year-round destination by repurposing former military structures. Building 324, a Neo-Georgian brick structure built in 1926, served as the Army YMCA and housed various recreational facilities. Building 330, known as the Fort Jay Theatre, was constructed in 1937 and features Art Deco details. The Trust plans to invest approximately $7 million into the renovation of these buildings. Proposals should align with sustainability and resiliency guidelines, and the Trust will host virtual information sessions and site visits in August and September.
