What's Happening?
Veon, a global digital operator, has partnered with the GSMA’s Mobile for Development Foundation to support digital innovation projects in Pakistan and Bangladesh. This collaboration involves co-funding start-ups selected by the GSMA Innovation Fund.
The partnership was formalized with a memorandum of understanding signed during the Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona. Veon-owned JazzWorld and Banglalink will work with the GSMA to provide financial and in-kind support to selected start-ups. This initiative aims to drive social, economic, and climate impact through mobile technology in these developing countries.
Why It's Important?
This partnership is significant as it aims to foster innovation and entrepreneurship in Pakistan and Bangladesh, two countries with rapidly growing digital economies. By supporting start-ups, the initiative could lead to the development of new technologies and services that address local challenges and improve quality of life. The collaboration also highlights the role of mobile technology in driving economic growth and social change in developing regions. For Veon and GSMA, this partnership enhances their influence and presence in these markets, potentially leading to new business opportunities and strengthening their corporate social responsibility profiles.
