What's Happening?
Five Ontario post-secondary institutions have united to form the Canadian Clean Energy Workforce Consortium (CCEW) to address the increasing demand for skilled workers in Canada's clean energy and nuclear sectors. The consortium, comprising Centennial
College, Durham College, Georgian College, Humber Polytechnic, and Ontario Tech University, aims to accelerate the development and responsiveness of education and training programs. This initiative is guided by an Industry Advisory Council and focuses on areas such as skilled trades, nuclear operations, cybersecurity, renewable energy systems, and artificial intelligence applications in energy. The consortium's coordinated approach is designed to expedite program approvals and provide high-quality, job-ready learning experiences for students. As Canada transitions to a clean energy economy, the demand for skilled talent is expected to grow significantly, with industry estimates indicating a need for nearly 40,000 new workers in the nuclear sector by 2030.
