What's Happening?
The Southeast Asia-Hainan-Hong Kong (SEA-H2X) submarine cable system has officially commenced commercial operations, enhancing connectivity between Hong Kong, Singapore, and other Southeast Asian regions. This development comes as the region anticipates
increased bandwidth demand driven by AI workloads. The SEA-H2X system, spanning 5,746 kilometers, connects key locations including Hainan in China, Songkhla in Thailand, and La Union in the Philippines. Additionally, the Sihanoukville-Hong Kong (SHV-HK) submarine cable system, Cambodia's first state-owned optical fiber cable, has been successfully landed in Hong Kong. These projects, led by China Mobile and China Unicom, aim to lower data latency and establish robust communication corridors across Asia.
