British Prime Minister Keir Starmer met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing to discuss enhancing UK-China relations. The meeting, which lasted 80 minutes, focused on establishing a 'comprehensive strategic partnership' to address global challenges

This visit marks the first by a British prime minister to China in eight years, aiming to mend relations strained by issues like Chinese espionage allegations and China's support for Russia in the Ukraine conflict. Starmer emphasized the importance of dialogue and cooperation, despite existing tensions over national security and human rights concerns. The leaders discussed reducing tariffs on Scotch whisky and introducing visa-free travel for British visitors, signaling progress in economic cooperation.
