The Northwestern District Attorney’s Office has identified the victim of a recent drowning in the Connecticut River near Turners Falls as 21-year-old Hermes Mariano Almonte Villar from Worcester. Villar was swimming with others at the Rock Dam when he went
underwater and did not resurface. Despite efforts by first responders to revive him with CPR, Villar was pronounced dead at Baystate Franklin Medical Center. The incident drew a significant emergency response due to the river's strong current, which poses a known risk to swimmers.
