HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, part of HD Hyundai, has signed a contract with HMM for the construction of eight ultra-large containerships. These vessels, each with a capacity of 13,400
TEU, will feature LNG dual-fuel engines and enlarged fuel tanks to improve operational efficiency. The contract, valued at $1.46 billion, marks HD Hyundai's largest container-ship order since 2007. The ships will be built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and HD Hyundai Samho, with deliveries expected through the first half of 2029. This order is part of HD Hyundai's strategy to lead the decarbonization of the shipbuilding and shipping industries.
