Anthropic has announced that starting August 14, the auto mode will become the default setting for Claude Code users, including Pro, Max, and Team users. This change replaces repeated approval prompts with a classifier that checks each tool call for potentially
destructive actions. The auto mode aims to streamline processes by reducing manual approvals, although it will revert to manual mode after repeated blocks. Anthropic has also decided to stop charging for extra tokens used per tool call in auto mode. A study by Anthropic showed that auto mode caught 89% of dangerous commands, compared to 13.6% by human testers.
