What's Happening?
Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) has signed an agreement with Hellenic Dry Bulk Ventures LLC to acquire two bulk carrier vessels, Banglar Progoti and Banglar Nobojatra, through self-financing. These vessels are equipped with contra-rotating propellers to reduce fuel costs and improve operational efficiency. They also feature modern designs and comply with green shipping standards, powered by IMO Tier III-certified engines. BSC's Managing Director, Commodore Mahmudul Malek, highlighted that this purchase marks Bangladesh's entry into the green shipping domain. The acquisition is expected to increase BSC's transport capacity by approximately 120,000 DWT. The first vessel will be delivered in October 2025, followed by the second in December 2025.
