The production of vegetarian and vegan meat alternatives in Germany experienced a decline in 2025, following several years of growth. According to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the production of meat substitute products fell by 1.2% to 124,900
tonnes in 2025, down from 126,500 tonnes in 2024. The value of this output also decreased by 2.2% year-on-year to €632.6 million. Despite this annual decline, the category has seen significant growth over the longer term, with production increasing by 107% from 60,400 tonnes in 2019. Conventional meat production remains significantly larger, with meat and meat products worth approximately €45.2 billion produced in 2025, a 2% increase from 2024. Germany remains Europe's largest market for plant-based products, with demand for plant-based meat increasing between 2023 and 2024, according to the Good Food Institute Europe.
