What's Happening?
Ohio University, in partnership with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, is investing $400,000 over three years to expand rural healthcare workforce programs. This initiative aims to improve healthcare services
for adults with chronic conditions and intellectual and developmental disabilities. The funding will support experiential learning programs, embedding 15 apprenticeship positions annually in community-based organizations and specialized medical providers in southeastern Ohio and the Athens region. Students from various academic disciplines will benefit from tailored curricula and faculty oversight, ensuring they gain expertise in addressing health disparities in rural communities.
Why It's Important?
This investment is crucial for strengthening the rural healthcare workforce, addressing significant health disparities in underserved areas. By providing hands-on learning opportunities, the initiative prepares students to serve vulnerable populations, enhancing healthcare access and quality in rural Ohio. The partnership between Ohio University and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield reflects a commitment to developing skilled healthcare professionals who can meet the unique needs of these communities. This effort not only supports students but also benefits community partners, fostering collaboration and improving healthcare delivery.
