The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted accelerated approval to Genglycos (pariglasgene brecaparvovec-opnr), marking the first approved therapy for patients aged 8 years and older with Glycogen Storage Disease Type Ia (GSDIa). GSDIa is a rare,
inherited genetic disorder caused by a deficiency of the enzyme glucose-6-phosphatase, which is crucial for breaking down stored glycogen into glucose. This deficiency leads to dangerously low blood sugar levels. Genglycos is an innovative gene therapy designed to reduce daily cornstarch intake as an adjunct to nutritional management.
