What's Happening?
Agriculture Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu has introduced the 'Pashusamvardhaka Margadarshini' e-magazine aimed at providing farmers with scientific guidance and modern practices. This initiative seeks to transform the livestock sector into a profitable,
technology-driven enterprise. The minister highlighted that approximately 25 lakh farmers in the state are involved in dairy, small livestock, and backyard poultry, contributing to a Gross Value Added of Rs 1.76 lakh crore in 2025-26. Despite the sector's growth, challenges such as traditional practices, labor shortages, fodder scarcity, and rising feed costs persist. The e-magazine, accessible via the SMILE platform and WhatsApp groups, will offer insights on animal health, nutrition, management, marketing, and government schemes.
Why It's Important?
The launch of the e-magazine represents a significant step towards modernizing the livestock sector, which is crucial for the economic development of the region. By providing scientific guidance, the initiative aims to address existing challenges and improve productivity and profitability for farmers. This aligns with Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu's vision of fostering entrepreneurship in every household. The focus on technology and scientific practices could lead to increased income for farmers, potentially yielding Rs 5-6 lakh annually per acre. This development is expected to attract more youth to the sector, countering the trend of migration towards technology fields.
What's Next?
The e-magazine is expected to facilitate the adoption of scientific practices among farmers, leading to enhanced productivity and profitability. Training programs in Vizag have already benefited 1,500 participants, with nearly 200 farmers launching profitable ventures. As more farmers access the e-magazine, the sector could see a shift towards more efficient and sustainable practices. The government may continue to support such initiatives, potentially expanding the scope of the e-magazine to cover more areas of agriculture.
