What's Happening?
Hospice of Michigan has received a $2,000 grant from the Charlevoix County Community Foundation to support Camp Good Grief, a free bereavement camp for children and teens. This grant, part of the foundation's Youth Needs grant cycle, ensures the camp remains
accessible to families in Charlevoix County. Camp Good Grief offers a safe space for children aged 8-17 who have experienced the loss of a loved one, providing therapeutic and recreational activities such as art and music therapy, memory projects, and mindfulness exercises. These activities are led by trained grief professionals and volunteers, helping children connect with peers and learn healthy coping strategies.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of Camp Good Grief is significant as it addresses the emotional needs of children dealing with loss, a group often overlooked in bereavement support. By providing a space where children can express their feelings and connect with others who have similar experiences, the camp plays a crucial role in their emotional healing and development. The grant ensures that these services remain free, removing financial barriers for families in need. This initiative not only supports individual children but also strengthens community resilience by fostering understanding and empathy among young people.
