What's Happening?
The Eritrean community in Qatar convened for its 10th congress in Doha on July 31, under the theme 'Together for a Bright Future.' The event saw participation from numerous nationals and was addressed by Mr. Ali Ibrahim, Eritrea’s Ambassador to Qatar.
He praised the community's involvement in national development programs and urged them to enhance their organizational capacity and mutual support. The congress included extensive discussions on activity reports and led to the adoption of future programs and the election of a new executive committee. Ambassador Ibrahim emphasized the importance of supporting the newly elected committee and encouraged continued participation in national affairs.
Why It's Important?
This congress is significant as it highlights the active role of the Eritrean diaspora in Qatar in contributing to their home country's development. Such gatherings foster a sense of community and national identity among expatriates, which can lead to increased support for Eritrea's socio-economic initiatives. The election of a new executive committee suggests a commitment to structured leadership and continuity in community efforts. This event also underscores the importance of diaspora communities in maintaining cultural ties and supporting national policies from abroad, which can have a positive impact on bilateral relations between Eritrea and Qatar.
