What's Happening?
The University of South Florida's Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation (CAMLS) has become the first institution in Florida to install GE HealthCare's Allia Moveo, a next-generation image-guided
therapy solution. This installation marks CAMLS as the first simulation center globally to offer training on this hybrid operating room technology. The Allia Moveo features a compact, cable-free C-arm and a lateral wide-bore design, allowing for Cone Beam CT imaging with patients' arms down, accommodating a wider range of body types. A second system is planned for Tampa General Hospital for clinical use later in 2026.
Why It's Important?
The installation of the Allia Moveo at CAMLS represents a significant advancement in medical training, providing students and clinicians with access to cutting-edge technology in a simulation environment. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to position the Tampa Medical & Research District as a leader in health technology. By integrating advanced imaging technology into training, USF is enhancing clinical confidence and preparing healthcare professionals to deliver state-of-the-art care.
What's Next?
Following the installation at CAMLS, a second Allia Moveo system is scheduled to be installed at Tampa General Hospital for clinical use. This 'train-then-treat' model ensures that healthcare professionals are well-versed in the technology before it is used in live patient settings, potentially improving patient outcomes and operational efficiency in medical facilities.
