What's Happening?
The Royal Garden hotel brand is expanding for the first time in 44 years with the opening of The Royal Garden Kowloon East in Tseung Kwan O, Hong Kong, in January 2026. This new 366-room urban resort is a transformation of the former Crowne Plaza Kowloon East,
developed by Sun Hung Kai Properties. The resort aims to provide a serene escape with features such as seven exclusive villas with private gardens, family-friendly rooms, and themed family rooms. The hotel also offers a variety of dining options, including the upcoming Ponentino, an Italian restaurant set to open in July 2026. The resort's design, by LAAB Architects, incorporates eco-conscious elements and aims to appeal to Millennials, Gen Z, and Gen Alpha.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of The Royal Garden into Kowloon East signifies a strategic move to capture a broader market, particularly targeting younger generations with its eco-friendly and family-oriented amenities. This development could boost local tourism and hospitality sectors by attracting both local and international visitors seeking luxury and relaxation. The introduction of new dining and leisure options also enhances the area's appeal as a destination for both tourists and residents. The project reflects a growing trend in the hospitality industry towards creating multi-functional spaces that cater to diverse needs, from family vacations to business events.
What's Next?
The Royal Garden Kowloon East will be unveiled in three phases throughout 2026, with guest rooms and suites launching in January, exclusive villas and family amenities opening by March, and the grand opening of Ponentino in July. The phased opening allows the hotel to gradually introduce its offerings and build anticipation among potential guests. The success of this expansion could influence future developments by Sun Hung Kai Properties and other hospitality brands looking to innovate and expand in competitive markets.
