What's Happening?
Victoria's Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) is actively searching for a new executive director of information services, a role equivalent to the chief information officer (CIO). This position became vacant after Tiffany Wong,
who had held the role since January 2022, left in October to join BDO Australia. The new appointee will be responsible for overseeing the department's digital, data, and cybersecurity strategies, leading a team of 100 staff members. Until the position is filled, Martin Gallagher, the director of project delivery and change, is temporarily handling the CIO responsibilities. This search follows a recent departmental restructuring that resulted in 350 job cuts across various divisions.
Why It's Important?
The appointment of a new CIO is crucial for DEECA as it navigates through significant organizational changes and aims to enhance its digital and cybersecurity capabilities. The role is pivotal in ensuring the department's technological infrastructure supports its broader environmental and energy objectives. The restructuring and leadership changes reflect a strategic shift that could impact how the department manages its resources and implements its policies. The new CIO will play a key role in driving innovation and efficiency within the department, which is essential for maintaining public trust and achieving governmental goals in energy and environmental management.
