What's Happening?
Kering, a French luxury group, has partnered with Shanghai Fashion Week to launch the Kering CRAFT initiative, aimed at supporting Chinese creative talent in fashion, craftsmanship, and technology. This
initiative, announced during the China International Import Expo, seeks to foster international exchange and strengthen Shanghai's global fashion influence. The programme will identify promising Chinese designers through a selection process led by an international jury and provide them with a residency in Milan, Paris, and Shanghai. The goal is to empower these designers to build strong brand and business skills, promoting the emergence of 'glocal' brands that can expand globally.
Why It's Important?
The Kering CRAFT programme is significant as it highlights the growing importance of China as a hub for innovation and creativity in the fashion industry. By fostering local talent and promoting international collaboration, the initiative could enhance the global competitiveness of Chinese designers and brands. This move aligns with Kering's vision of integrating local and international perspectives, potentially leading to new business models and strengthening the fashion ecosystem. The programme could also boost the global influence of Shanghai's fashion industry, benefiting both local designers and international brands seeking to tap into the Chinese market.
