What's Happening?
Scott Milinsky, a 79-year-old resident of Pompano Beach, Florida, has experienced significant progress in his battle with Alzheimer's disease through a new treatment. Milinsky was the second person in Florida to receive Kisunla, an anti-amyloid medication
developed by Eli Lilly. Administered at Broward Health North's Memory Disorder & Alzheimer's Center under the supervision of Dr. Hazel Wiley, the treatment aims to slow the progression of early symptomatic Alzheimer's by targeting and removing amyloid plaques in the brain. Over a year and a half, Milinsky underwent 18 infusions, resulting in the complete removal of amyloid plaques as confirmed by a PET scan. Despite the success, Dr. Wiley notes that the treatment is not a cure, as it does not address TAU tangles, another hallmark of Alzheimer's. However, the results are seen as a significant step forward in Alzheimer's treatment.
