Anthropic is set to enable its AI coding assistant, Claude Code, to operate in 'auto mode' by default for Pro, Max, and Team subscribers starting August 14. This change means the AI will automatically approve most tool calls without user intervention,
based on a built-in classifier. The decision follows a study involving 1,053 participants, which found that auto mode matches or exceeds manual approval in safety, as users were approving 97% of prompts anyway. Companies like Adobe, Nuro, Gusto, and Garner Health have already adopted this default setting, reporting a 25% increase in code output.
