SmartGreen Aquaculture (SGA), a startup based in Hyderabad, India, has launched the country's largest inland trout farm using advanced recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) technology. The facility, located
in Telangana, is designed to maintain coldwater conditions year-round, enabling the farming of rainbow trout in a tropical climate. The project, valued at USD 6 million, aims to produce 1,200 metric tons of trout annually. SGA plans to expand its operations by adopting a 'hub-and-spoke' model, with the Kandukur site serving as a hub for training and research. The company is also eyeing international markets, particularly in the Middle East and Southeast Asia, while focusing on establishing a stable domestic base.
