What's Happening?
The Illinois Agri-Women organization has announced the winners of its Legacy Farm Family Awards as part of the Generations of Women in Agriculture Across America (GoAg3) initiative. This program celebrates families where women have played significant
roles in agriculture over multiple generations. The Schultz/Miller Farm Family, spanning Illinois, Wisconsin, and Iowa, received the first-place award for their extensive involvement in production agriculture, livestock farming, and community service. The Green Farm Family of Arthur, Illinois, was awarded second place, recognized for their ongoing agricultural operations and community contributions. The O’Bryan Farm Family of Oregon took third place, noted for their dedication to livestock production and agricultural youth programs. The GoAg3 initiative, launched in 2025, aims to highlight the vital contributions of women in agriculture. The award-winning families are invited to a celebration event on August 21, 2026, in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois.
Why It's Important?
The recognition of these farm families underscores the critical role women play in the agricultural sector, often contributing to both the economic and social fabric of rural communities. By highlighting these contributions, the GoAg3 initiative not only honors past achievements but also encourages future generations of women to pursue leadership roles in agriculture. This recognition can inspire policy changes and increased support for women in agriculture, potentially leading to more inclusive and diverse agricultural practices. The awards also emphasize the importance of community service and education in sustaining rural economies and fostering agricultural innovation.
What's Next?
The upcoming GoAg3 Celebration event will provide a platform for these families to share their experiences and insights, potentially influencing other agricultural communities. The event will include educational sessions and professional development opportunities, which could lead to new collaborations and initiatives aimed at further empowering women in agriculture. As these families continue to engage in community service and agricultural education, they may inspire similar initiatives across the country, promoting sustainable agricultural practices and community development.
