What's Happening?
The Center for Dairy Excellence is providing a $100 discount to dairy producers who enroll in the 'Spanish for Agriculture' online course this fall. The course, led by Katie Dotterer of AgvoKate, spans eight weeks and is designed for English-speaking dairy professionals working with Spanish-speaking colleagues. It aims to improve communication, safety, and productivity on dairy farms by teaching practical Spanish language skills. The course includes interactive classes, ag-specific vocabulary, and a certificate of completion. Participants can access course materials 24/7 and receive personalized support from the instructor.
Why It's Important?
Improving communication between English-speaking dairy producers and their Spanish-speaking employees is crucial for enhancing workplace safety and productivity. The language barrier can lead to misunderstandings and inefficiencies, which this course aims to address. By equipping dairy producers with Spanish language skills, the initiative supports better management practices and fosters mutual respect among farm workers. This can lead to improved operational outcomes and a more harmonious work environment, benefiting both the dairy industry and its workforce.
What's Next?
Dairy producers interested in the course must sign up by September 19 to receive the discount. The course will run from September 23 to November 20, with live classes available for beginners. Intermediate students will access recorded sessions. Participants will have until December 30 to complete the course materials. The initiative may encourage other agricultural sectors to adopt similar language training programs, potentially leading to broader improvements in communication and productivity across the industry.
