What's Happening?
A model of the Veterans Memorial Hall has been incorporated into the Sinnissippi Station Model Garden Railroad display at Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens. This addition was made possible by an anonymous donor. The exhibit, designed by Applied Imagination
Ltd., features model trains and trolleys alongside miniature replicas of local landmarks, decorated with natural materials. Veterans Memorial Hall, established by Civil War veterans of Winnebago County, serves as a museum showcasing local veterans' service and artifacts from various periods. The exhibit is open until January 25, 2026, with varying admission fees and discounts for certain groups.
Why It's Important?
The inclusion of the Veterans Memorial Hall model in the Sinnissippi Station exhibit highlights the community's dedication to preserving and honoring local history and veterans' contributions. This exhibit not only serves as an educational tool but also strengthens community ties by celebrating local heritage. It provides an opportunity for visitors to engage with history in an interactive manner, potentially increasing interest in local history and veterans' affairs. The exhibit's support from the Nicholas Family Foundation underscores the importance of private contributions in maintaining cultural and historical displays.
