What's Happening?
Egypt's Acting Minister of Environment, Manal Awad, recently met with officials from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to discuss expanding cooperation on climate adaptation and sustainable agriculture projects. The discussions
focused on ongoing initiatives such as the sustainable management of agricultural ecosystems in the New Valley oases and support for development efforts in Al-Farafra. The meeting also covered efforts to modernize irrigation and farming practices, develop climate-resilient crop varieties, and strengthen climate resilience in coastal and delta governorates through ecosystem restoration programs financed by the Green Climate Fund. Additionally, the talks explored expanding the production of organic fertilizers through large-scale biogas units at livestock farms to enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian agricultural exports.
