What's Happening?
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. of the Philippines met with the Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC) to discuss strategies for protecting Filipino jobs amid ongoing Middle East tensions affecting fuel prices and supply chains. The council proposed initiatives
such as faster job matching, workforce redeployment, and expanded job fairs. A key proposal was the AI Upskilling para sa Digital Asenso (AIUDA) program, aimed at equipping workers with skills for digital professions. The meeting also emphasized the need for stronger digital infrastructure to support remote work.
Why It's Important?
The focus on AI workforce upskilling is significant as it addresses the need for a resilient and adaptable workforce in the face of global economic challenges. By investing in digital skills, the Philippines can enhance its competitiveness in the global market and create new employment opportunities. This initiative could lead to economic growth, reduce unemployment, and position the country as a hub for digital innovation. The emphasis on digital infrastructure also highlights the importance of technology in modernizing the workforce and supporting economic resilience.
