What's Happening?
Christchurch Airport is expanding its Australian network with the introduction of new seasonal direct flights between Christchurch and Perth, operated by Jetstar. Starting in October 2026 and running until March 2027, the service will operate three times
a week, adding over 30,000 seats during the summer season. The flights will be conducted using Jetstar's Perth-based Airbus A321LRs. This new route enhances connectivity between New Zealand and Western Australia, offering travelers easier access to Perth's attractions and facilitating tourism and business exchanges. The service also connects to various Qantas group destinations, providing convenient travel options to international locations.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of direct flights between Christchurch and Perth is significant for both tourism and economic ties between New Zealand and Australia. It strengthens Christchurch Airport's role as a key gateway to the South Island, supporting tourism, business, and trade. The expansion of flight services reflects a recovery to pre-COVID travel levels and highlights the importance of the Australian market for Christchurch Airport. By increasing travel options and capacity, the airport can better serve the needs of travelers and contribute to the region's economic growth. The new route also underscores the strong partnership between Christchurch Airport and Jetstar, as both entities work to enhance travel accessibility and connectivity.
