What's Happening?
Congressman Sam Liccardo has initiated a Youth Advisory Committee aimed at engaging high school juniors and seniors in community development. The program, which runs from September to June, allows students to collaborate with Liccardo's office to advance
policy priorities. Participants will meet monthly, both in-person and virtually, to develop their analytical and communication skills. The initiative is designed to foster civic engagement among young people in the 16th Congressional District.
Why It's Important?
This initiative provides a platform for young individuals to actively participate in shaping their community's future. By involving students in policy discussions, the program aims to cultivate a new generation of informed and engaged citizens. The skills and experiences gained through this committee could inspire future leaders and contribute to a more vibrant and participatory democracy. Additionally, it strengthens the connection between elected officials and their constituents, promoting transparency and accountability.
What's Next?
The application deadline for the 2026-2027 cohort is August 24, 2026. As the program progresses, participants will engage in various projects and discussions that align with Congressman Liccardo's policy goals. The success of this initiative could lead to similar programs in other districts, expanding opportunities for youth engagement nationwide.
