In Compton, California, two separate shootings at Fourth of July block parties resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including a community activist and an aspiring nurse. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department reported that the shootings occurred
about two miles apart and left four others injured. Eric Washington, a former government aide and community organizer, was identified as one of the victims. He was reportedly trying to deescalate a conflict when he was killed. Meah Bordenave-Jenkins, a 19-year-old university student studying to become a nurse, was also among the deceased.
