What's Happening?
Students from the University of Winchester's Faculty of Business and Digital Technology have collaborated with Abbots Ann Hall and author Tom Spencer to improve their social media strategies. Through the university's new Consultancy Club, students provided
tailored recommendations to enhance the online presence of their clients. The initiative, led by Julia Osgerby and Dr. Claire Ancient, involved interdisciplinary teams from various courses such as accounting, marketing, and business management. The students helped Tom Spencer, who lacks a major publisher, by advising him on building an online presence to boost his reputation and sales. Their efforts resulted in a 246% increase in Spencer's social media reach.
Why It's Important?
This initiative highlights the practical application of academic skills in real-world scenarios, providing students with valuable experience in digital marketing and consultancy. It also underscores the importance of social media in modern marketing strategies, especially for individuals and organizations without significant backing. The success of this project demonstrates the potential for educational institutions to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, benefiting both students and local communities.
What's Next?
Following the successful pilot, the Consultancy Club plans to continue its operations, offering support to more organizations and individuals. This ongoing initiative could lead to further collaborations, providing students with continuous opportunities to apply their skills in real-world settings. Interested parties are encouraged to contact Julia Osgerby for potential partnerships.
