What's Happening?
The Liberty County Development Authority (LCDA) has expressed strong support for the Regional Industry Support Enterprise (RISE), a workforce development initiative aimed at enhancing employment opportunities in the region. RISE, founded less than two
years ago, has been actively engaging with various sectors to improve workforce conditions and opportunities. Anna Chafin, president and CEO of RISE, updated LCDA members on the organization's activities, which include initiatives in child care, housing, transportation, and outreach to military families. RISE has organized several events, such as a college and career showcase and a job fair, to connect job seekers with employers. The organization has also been involved in best practices trips to learn from successful models in other regions, such as the Kia auto assembly plant in West Georgia. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to address workforce challenges and improve economic conditions in the area.
Why It's Important?
RISE's initiatives are crucial for addressing workforce development challenges in the region, particularly for underrepresented groups such as veterans, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. By focusing on key areas like child care and transportation, RISE aims to remove barriers that prevent individuals from entering or remaining in the workforce. The organization's efforts to connect job seekers with employers through events and job fairs are vital for reducing unemployment and fostering economic growth. Additionally, RISE's collaboration with educational institutions and local industries helps align workforce skills with market demands, ensuring that the region's labor force is equipped to meet the needs of employers. This approach not only benefits individuals seeking employment but also supports the overall economic health of the community.
What's Next?
RISE plans to continue its efforts by organizing more events and expanding its initiatives to cover additional counties. The organization is also exploring solutions to address the gap in child care availability, which is seen as a significant barrier to workforce participation. Furthermore, RISE is working with the state Department of Transportation on a commuter feasibility study to improve regional transportation options. These steps are expected to enhance the effectiveness of RISE's programs and further support workforce development in the region.
